ISTAPA, an institution rooted in the field

Vocational training, practice, innovation and entrepreneurship serving the agro-pastoral sector.

Presentation

"Business objective"

The Higher Institute of Applied Agro-Pastoral Technologies (ISTAPA) is a higher education institution oriented towards vocational training, practice, innovation and entrepreneurship in the sectors of agriculture, livestock, forestry, environment, renewable energy and associated technologies.

ISTAPA is located in Ebogo I, on the Yaoundé-Soa road, after Radio Bonne Nouvelle, in an environment particularly suited to agro-pastoral training and practical work.

The institution is distinguished by a pedagogical approach that seeks to bring academic knowledge closer to the professional realities of the field. To this end, ISTAPA relies on a vocational training center (CEFPREPAS) in order to combine theoretical courses with practical experience in a professional environment.

Word of the promoter

Strengthening capacity for sustainable development

The agro-pastoral and the environmental protection sectors are very important pillars in the process of achieving sustainable economic development for Sub-Saharan African countries. This is why these sectors occupy a prominent place in countries’ development policies and strategies.

On one hand, the active participation of agropastoral producers in development initiatives initiated by the states, development partners or the private sector, faces a certain number of constraints, including: inadequate training, inadequate training structures, the inadequacy of the management system, the aging of producers and the rural exodus. Training in the number and quality of human resources capable of stimulating growth in the agro-pastoral sector — in particular through the use of the abundant renewable energy sources available — notably requires the availability of modern, innovative and efficient training structures.

On the other hand, given the impact of climate change, it is crucial to put in place adaptation and resilience strategies that include the promotion of climate-smart practices, in particular through the training of human resources in environmental professions, efficient water management and renewable energies.

With the aim of supporting African governments in their efforts to achieve sustainable development, ISTAPA uses its innovative training system to help build the technical capacity of people working in these sectors.

By training students in innovative agro-pastoral production techniques and good environmental protection practices, ISTAPA aims to prepare its students to become successful entrepreneurs at the end of their training and contribute to the sustainable development of Africa.

ISTAPA students are trained in an innovative academic and professional environment. This encourages them to understand that their vocation is to create their own jobs at the end of their training and to employ other young people.

ISTAPA

Our vision

In the medium and long term, ISTAPA aims to become a reference institution in vocational and technological training applied to the agro-pastoral, environmental and energy sectors in Africa.

Academic excellence

Developing training programs that meet higher education standards and the real needs of the labor market.

Practical excellence

Making the field, laboratories, workshops and educational operations essential components of training.

Technological innovation

Introduce modern technologies into production, processing, energy production and environmental management systems.
